A founder’s journal from Goa
Lately, I have been thinking a lot about doing less.
Not less in ambition.
Not less in effort.
But less in noise.
As entrepreneurs building from India, I feel we sometimes believe we need to be more advanced, more feature-rich, more AI than everyone else.
But I don’t think that is always the answer.
We don’t always need more features.
We don’t always need more speed.
We don’t always need to shout louder than the brands around us.
Sometimes, we just need to solve the basic human problems better.
For centuries, India has understood things the modern world is now trying to rediscover.
How to live well. How to be content. How to understand yourself. How to build meaning into daily life.
Maybe that is our real advantage.
Not just technology.
Not just scale.
Not just cheaper production.
But purpose.
I have been inspired by brands that choose to do fewer things, but do them exceptionally well.
Schindelhauer, for example, makes beautiful fixed-gear bicycles. They are not trying to make every kind of bicycle for every kind of customer. They are focused, minimal, and deeply aspirational.
Another example is the Mudita Kompakt E-ink phone I have been using recently. It does not try to replace your entire life with apps. It gives you only what is needed. A few essential tools, a hotspot, and even a button to go completely offline.
There is something powerful in that restraint.
And I feel this is where Indian brands can truly shine.
In a world crowded with AI-driven products, logo-heavy luxury, and endless feature lists, we can build something more human.
Objects that are not just bought, but kept.
At COCO LENI, this is something I keep coming back to.
We do not want to make the most products.
We want to make fewer frames, but make them with more care.
We do not want to chase every trend.
We want to build eyewear that feels honest, intentional, and made to last.
For me, true luxury is not about having more.
It is about needing less, and choosing better.
If you are building something out of India with this kind of thinking, I would love to connect.
And if you believe COCO LENI can grow internationally, I would love your help in building it.
I truly believe India’s next great brands will not come from copying the world.
They will come from remembering who we are.
If you believe COCO LENI can grow internationally, I would love your help in building it.
Write to me at arjun@cocoleni.com with your thoughts.
